In recent years, herbs have become very popular to self-treat many conditions. New Start Chiropractic & Acupuncture stocks a full Korean and Chinese herbal dispensary. The herbs act to complement and balance one another in formulas and tears specially designed for the patient. This enhances each herb's unique actions and properties while ensuring a low rate of side effects. During acupuncture treatment, herbs accelerate and maintain the therapeutic effects and treatment. The herbal formulas treat illnesses based on a traditional Oriental Medical diagnosis and rarely cause unwanted side effects. The herbal medicine treats disease by strengthening a person's basic constitution, addressing the underlying cause of illness, and eliminating symptoms of an illness.
Herbal formulas are available in a variety of forms: dried herbs are boiled into a tea; herbs are ground into a powder to make an infusion; granules are added to water to make a tea; powders can be placed in capsules (pill form). At New Start, most herbal medicines are prepared specifically for each patient in the formation of decoction, brewed herbal teas.
*The herbs are an addition to the visit fee, and insurance companies do not currently cover them.
Acupuncture
Oriental Medicine and Acupuncture is a system of treatment that has evolved over thousands of years in East Asia. The practice of Oriental Medicine, is a complete medical system that is carefully tailored that offers Acupuncture, herbal prescriptions, Tui-Na, nutrition, Tai Chi, various exercises and other healing modalities.Needles
Acupuncture involves the insertion of extremely thin needles through the skin, to various depths at strategic points on one's body. Although acupuncture originated in Asia, its popularity has grown significantly within the United States in the past two decades. Many studies and research has indicated that it provides a number of medical benefits – from reducing paint to helping with chemotherapy – to induced nausea.Effect and Method
The Oriental Medical theory behind acupuncture as medical treatment is very different from that of Western medicine. In Oriental Medicine, healthy means the balanced Yin and Yang Qi, the complementary extremes of the life force. Qi flows through pathways or meridians in your body. These meridians and energy flow are accessible through more than 350 acupuncture points. Illness is a result of an imbalance of the forces. By inserting needles into these points in various combinations, acupuncture practitioners believe that your energy flow will rebalance, offering not only pain relief but treatment as well.Side Effect
The Majority of reported side effects of acupuncture are soreness, slight bleeding, or bruising at the needle sites. Rarely, a needle may break or an internal organ might be injured because of unqualified practitioners with low quality needles. However, these risks are extremely low in the hands of a licensed acupuncturist. New Start uses only sterilized stainless acupuncture needles that are used by a qualified acupuncture practitioner.Herbs
